NZ sends back 150 Hyderabad students for producing fake documents

Hyderabad: Around 150 students from Hyderabad have been served deportation letters by the immigration department of New Zealand for producing fake documents while applying for student visas.
While the students are blaming their agents in Hyderabad and Punjab for the fake financial documents, the New Zealand government has categorically stated that the students can’t be exonerated.
Students, supported by Migrant Workers Association, staged a protest in Auckland on September 26 demanding justice. They claimed that they had spent around $20,000 to $25,000 dollars for admission, agents’ commission and fees.
One of the students, Hafiz Syed, told the media, “I came for studying Computers. It has been a nightmare for me and I am under terrible pressure. I am the only highly educated one in the family and with great difficulty my family spent the money on my education. I made a mistake trusting the agent blindly. We thought the agent would do things properly. We are victimised by the game played by the agent.”
Students engaged in crime: New Zealand
Around 150 students from Hyderabad have been served deportation letters by the New Zealand immigration department for producing fake documents.  One of the students Hafiz Syed said he had met a lawyer and had submitted a response to Immig-ration NZ. However, it was not accepted.
Radio NZ quoted tertiary education minister Steven Joyce: “Ultimately the students are responsible for what is submitted. It’s not just visas. Some of them engaged in crimes in NZ.”
Student Chinta Sunil said, “I arrived in NZ in November to study Business and was unaware that my visa papers were not legal. I paid $17,000 in fees and have spent around $20,000 after arriving here.”

A repeat of 2000 floods: The four days Hyderabad stood still

From 21st September onwards, a heavy downpour - 23 times the daily average rainfall in monsoon - caused by a depression over the Bay of Bengal led to Hyderabad coming to a standstill for four days. This scenario would have been one of déjà vu for Hyderabadis, who witnessed similar flooding in 2000.
As life was paralysed with waterlogged roads and housing colonies in the country’s much touted IT hub, the two-year-old Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) government squarely blamed the chaos on encroachments on nalas, or storm water drains. “There are 28,000 encroachments on nalas in Hyderabad and some of them even in government complexes and we need a huge Rs 11,000 crore and 3-4 years time to rectify and remove them,” said Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (referred to as KCR), speaking to the media on 24th September. “There has been no innovative reorientation of the drain system since it was first done by Sir M Visvesvaraya in 1930 and for the last 60 years, subsequent governments have only made additions but not overhauled or redesigned it,” he said.
The north east monsoon rains under the influence of the low pressure in the Bay of Bengal last week came as a double shock to residents of Telangana’s capital. Having gone through harrowing days in the first week of September with heavy rain and flooding shutting schools for five days, the second shock was worse than expected. “We were just returning to normalcy but these four days of thundershowers have been real mean,” said Alex Smith, an American consultant of an IT giant. Smith had come to Hyderabad to conduct a seminar for Java professionals last week.
KCR said that the illegal buildings on drains and tank beds needed to be cleared immediately to improve the brand image of Hyderabad as a global city. “We will relocate all the poor living in such encroached land free of cost with double bedroom flats, but every illegal construction on nalas, tank beds etc will be demolished, come what may, and whoever it belongs to, whether politician, Minister or MLA,” said KCR, urging the media to back this campaign. “Citizens who provide information on violations will be suitably rewarded upto Rs 10,000,” he added.
Four platoons of the army and over 200 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel with boats and choppers have been deployed for rescue and relief operations. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and police are now identifying old buildings - there are an estimated 2,200 or so of them - and vacating them anticipating their collapse after days of waterlogging.

Two centimetre rain in 60 minutes in hyderabad.

Fears of heavy rainfall on Thursday came true as eight areas in Hyderabad recorded over 20 mm rainfall in just 60 minutes.
Life came to a grinding halt in several parts of the city, as overflowing streets, water logging in low lying areas and arterial junctions made life of people miserable.
West Maredpally received the highest amount of 31 mm rainfall followed by Chilakalaguda (30 mm) and Monda Market (28.7 mm). Srinagar Colony, Trimulgherry, Balanagar, Fever Hospital and Narayanguda received over 20 mm rain.
A dilapidated house collapsed in Yakutpura but there was no loss of life, even as the GHMC Commissioner B.Janardhan Reddy alerted the monsoon teams to be high alert in view of the heavy downpour.
A day after the city was pounded by heavy rain, the Municipal Administration Minister K.T. Rama Rao visited some of the worst affected areas. He drove down to Allamthota Baavi and Mayuri Marg localities in Begumpet, where rows of houses came under sheet of water after the Begumpet Nala overflowed.
Several colonies in Kukapalli, Qutubullapur, Alwal and Malkajgiri municipal circles continued to be under water. In Alwal Circle excess water from Mothkulakunta cheruvu inundated houses in Venkateswarlu colony. Water from Kothacheruvu in Alwal circle flooded Bharathnagar, Rajiv weaker section colony, Anand Rao Nagar and Srinivas Nagar.
Outflow from Chinnarayudu Cheruvu (tank) did not spare residents of Yadammanagar, West Venkatapuram, Padmavathi Colony and Sathyamma enclave in Alwal circle.
Officials got into act on a war footing to clear water logging near the Raj Bhavan.
An army of GHMC workers have been deployed in the affected areas of Kukatpally, Moosapet, and other areas to bring normalcy to the rain-battered city. Water from Yellamma Banda that gushed into Allwyn Colony, Guru Gobind Nagar and Sai Baba Colony, Dharani Nagar near Kukatapally finally drained away today morning, residents said.
Even as the workers were clearing the road of sand and other debris, the skies opened up again at about 1.20 p.m. The blinding rain lasting about half an hour again sent people scurrying for cover and flooded the roads in many areas of the city as predicted by IMD.
Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development K.T. Rama Rao was on the job inspecting many areas and tweeted: “Road repairs (to be) taken up on a priority basis in Hyderabad. Once current spell of rain subsides, all roads will be restored.”
In the meantime, the Met office has forecast heavy rain likely to occur at isolated places in Adilabad, Hyderabad, Karimnagar, Khammam, Mahaboobnagar, Medak, Nalgonda, Nizamabad, Ranga Reddy and Warangal districts.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Moto E3 Power is priced at Rs. 7,999
  • It will be going on sale exclusively via Flipkart
  • It packs a large 3500mAh battery
  • When Motorola made its comeback to the Indian market in 2014, the budget-friendly Moto E played a major role in its success. The company received a massive response to the first Moto E launch, leading Flipkart servers to crash and units to go out of stock within seconds. Motorola followed the same strategy with its second-generation Moto E (Review) but didn't quite achieve the same level of success in India thanks to stronger competition.
  • Now, post takeover, Lenovo is launching the third-generation Moto E. There is however a change this time; the model that is launching is called Moto E3 Power, and it's a variant of the Moto E3 for India. The Moto E3 Power is definitely superior on paper thanks to its bigger battery, and twice the amount of memory and inbuilt storage. But will that be enough to take on the likes of some popular budget smartphones in the country? Only time will tell. We spent some time with the new Moto E3 Power at its launch event in New Delhi, and here are our first impressions.
  • One of the biggest highlights of the Moto E3 Power is its large 3500mAh battery, and this is being marketed heavily by the company. Making the deal even sweeter, Lenovo will ship a 10W charger in the Moto E3 Power's box. The phone supports rapid charging, which means plugging it in for 15 minutes will give you up to five hours of battery life, according to the company.
The Moto E3 Power has a removable back cover that opens up to reveal two SIM slots as well as a microSD card slot. The company has gone with a removable battery on the Moto E3 Power, which looks like a welcome change from most phones today which have non-removable batteries.
  • The new Moto E3 Power definitely looks a lot like the first-generation Moto E with speaker grilles both above and below the display. The 5-inch screen makes this phone feel taller than the original Moto Ewhich had a 4.3-inch display as well as the Moto E (Gen 2) which had a 4.5-inch display. The front of the new phone is plain with no branding, while the rear sports the iconic Moto logo just below the camera. We liked the textured rear panel and the metal frame, which both give the Moto E3 Power a sturdy feel as well as decent grip.
The volume and power buttons are on the right, while the left is blank. The 3.5mm audio jack is on top, and the Micro-USB charging port is on the bottom. At around 154 grams, the phone feels slightly heavy for its size, and with a 9.5mm side profile, it's also quite thick.
  • In terms of display, Lenovo at the launch touted that the Moto E3 Power sports the "biggest and brightest" display ever for a Moto E-series phone. The E3 Power sports a 5-inch HD (720x1280-pixel) IPS display which is certainly an improvement over the previous generation's qHD (540x960-pixel) resolution. That means that despite its bigger display, the Moto E3 Power also sports a higher pixel density which now stands at 294ppi. We were however surprised to see no reinforced glass. This was one feature that both previous Moto E models offered. During our limited time with the device, the display on the Moto E3 Power seemed crisp and did a decent job for the most part. We liked the viewing angles but were however slightly disappointed with the display's brightness which might be an issue under direct sunlight.
Lenovo has gone for onscreen buttons instead of capacitive ones for Android's Home, Recents, and Back navigation controls. The physical volume and power buttons placed on the right offer decent tactile feel. Much like previous Moto handsets, the Moto E3 Power will also sport a nano-coating which is claimed to protect it from rain splashes.
  • The Moto E3 Power runs near-stock Android 6.0 Marshmallow with very minimal tweaks from the company. The unit that we played with had the Google Now launcher which was set as the default. There are not many third-party apps installed on the phone which is good for users as they get the most out of the 16GB of onboard storage. The phone supports storage expansion via a microSD card (up to 32GB). Additionally, Lenovo is also offering two years of free photo storage on the Google Photos app.
  • This new phone is powered by a 64-bit 1GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6735P processor, and has 2GB of RAM. For those familiar with the Moto E series of smartphones, the previous Moto E model was powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. In the time we spent with a Moto E3 Power demo unit, we found that the smartphone was responsive to touch inputs and quick enough with multitasking. Apps launched quickly without delays. Stay tuned for when we put this phone through its paces for a detailed review.
One of the biggest improvements on the Moto E3 Power is in the camera department. This phone sports an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, with features like 720p HD video capture and burst mode. It also has a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with a beautification mode.
  • The camera app on the Moto E3 Power launched quickly after tapping on the icon. In our short time with the device, we found that images taken under normal lighting seemed crisp, with good amounts of detail. On zooming in, we however saw pixellation in the corners. The front-facing camera took decent images though we will reserve our verdict on the cameras until we get a chance to test them under varied conditions.
In terms of connectivity, the Moto E3 Power offers Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, A-GPS, Bluetooth v4.0, 3G, GPRS/ EDGE, and 4G LTE (Cat. 4). It also supports VoLTE and can take advantage of Reliance Jio's network. Sensors include a proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, and an accelerometer.
    Final Thoughts
At Rs. 7,999, Lenovo's Moto E3 Power seems like a decent overall package. The device will be available exclusively through Flipkart from midnight on Monday with plenty of launch offers.
  • Amit Boni, General Manager, Motorola Mobility at the launch event revealed that there are over 3 million Moto E users in India, which is a testament to the popularity of the previous two models. However, at its price point, the new Moto E3 Power will be competing against some of the most popular phones in the country, including the Xiaomi Redmi 3S which is priced lower at Rs. 6,999 and offers better features such as an all-metal body and a massive 4100mAh battery.
The new Moto E3 Power will also be challenged by Lenovo's very own Vibe K5 Plus and Vibe K5 which are already available in India priced at Rs. 8,499 and Rs. 6,999 respectively.
On being asked whether the Moto E3 Power will pose a problem for existing Vibe models in the Indian market, Sudhin Mathur, Executive Director, Lenovo MBG India stated that the sub-Rs. 10,000 price segment is too big and there's "something for every phone".
The Moto E3 Power brings a lot of upgrades and improvements compared to its predecessors but is it worth buying, especially with competition as fierce as it is? Stay tuned to Gadgets 360 for a full review of the Moto E3 Power, coming up soon.

Snapdeal takes on Flipkart with 'Unbox Diwali Sale' from Oct 2

New Delhi: E-commerce major Snapdeal today said it will flag off the festive season with its 'Unbox Diwali Sale' from October 2, the same day when its larger rival Flipkart will begin its own festive offers.
The first Unbox Diwali Sale will run from October 2-6 and will see exciting deals and offers across all categories like home appliances, electronics, mobiles, home furnishings, furniture and FMCG, Snapdeal said in a statement.
Shoppers will be able to choose from a wide range of products at great value hourly deals, with discounts up to 70 per cent, it added.
Flipkart will host its 'Big Billion Days' sale during the same period. Amazon.in is yet to announce its sale days.
According to analysts, this year's festive sales may be impacted by recent guidelines by DIPP that bar e-commerce players from doling out steep discounts.
The players have been investing significantly to ramp up delivery and logistics capabilities to meet the surge in demand during the festive season.
"We are entering this season with the widest assortment, key brand partnerships and exclusive line of products... Our superfast deliveries and free shipping options through Snapdeal Gold will add further sparkle to festive offerings," Snapdeal V-P and Head of Categories Saurabh Bansal said.
In a separate announcement, Snapdeal said it has appointed Mayank Jain to head supply chain at the company.
As President SCM (supply chain management), Jain will spearhead the complete operations and supply chain function at Snapdeal. He takes over from Ashish Chitravanshi, Senior Vice-President Operations, who is moving out to pursue other interests.
Jain had joined Snapdeal in March 2013 as Assistant Vice-President and Head of Seller services. He has previously worked with firms like ITC, Urban Touch and Fashion and You.

Coding camp in Hyderabad where boys are not allowed!

Girls Code Camp’ works exclusively for girls to break stereotypes generally associated with girls
A  man with thick-rimmed glasses and the customary acne-prone skin, perpetually dressed in a hoodie or sweater — that’s the stereotypical image of a computer programmer as popularised by TV shows and films. How often do we see this character portrayed by a woman? Stanford University student Aashna Shroff proves otherwise. To break this image, she went a step further and founded Girls Code Camp in 2014, a Hyderabad-based social venture that conducts coding camps, exclusively for girls. Highlighting another stereotype, Aashna says, “A lot of schools beg us to hold similar workshops for boys saying that they are ‘Better at it!’ Why presume they would be better? Girls could have an aptitude for it as well.”
This is the cliché the fourth-year student and her team of four Computer Science (CS) students wish to alter. “Changing people’s mindset is not easy. It is what we work towards every day through every school we visit, every person we meet, and every student we teach,” passionately elaborates Satwik Pochampally, a member of the camp. The team conducts workshops at multiple schools in Hyderabad like CHIREC, Oakridge, NASR and others, and their biggest achievement has been a boot camp for underprivileged schools.
“A major obstacle faced when teaching students from low-income backgrounds is that they don’t know how to use a computer,” points out Aashna. Needless to add, their “poor infrastructure, which can be frustrating to use, like old computers. Right now we are working with Dr Reddy’s Foundation, who were kind enough to arrange for laptops,” says the 21-year-old. Another solution they came up with is taking students to a ‘host school’. These schools lend space for the boot camp, the general module of which contains three workshops — mobile app development, web development, and hands-on tinkering. This hardly sounds like something students can learn out of a two-day workshop, hence they intend to start after-school clubs. They also plan to host Hack Day, an opportunity for students who have attended their workshops to build something on their own using skills that they have learnt during the workshop, an annual affair.

Now sharing a bike ride in Hyderabad is just a click away

HYDERABAD: A Hyderabad-based startup is making efforts to change the way people commute, by introducing the first two wheeler ride sharing application ‘getmi’ in the city.
Founded by a young IT engineer Shravya Reddy, getmi app offers bike ride sharing services across Hyderabad. The app can be used by those who want to travel from one place to the other on a hired shared bike or who want to earn by offering a ride on their bike.
The startup, which started operations in May 2016, was officially launched on Sunday. Owing to the utilitarian value of the idea, the startup is already catching the fancy of Hyderabadis as more than 173 bikers have joined the app for offering bike rides and more than 5,000 rides have been taken by the users.
“Travelling from home to workplace has become an ordeal in Hyderabad with journey taking hours. The journey time gets even longer, if one uses a car. Also we observed that many two-wheeler riders travel single. We wanted to make time taken for travelling to workplace and within city, quicker and economical,” explained Shravya.
The idea was born out of Shravya’s personal travel travails. She developed it along with her classmate turned co-founder M Yashwanth. Though the duo were initially alone, the team has now grown into 11 members and got funding from two mentors.
“The sharing bike rides are available in all areas in Hyderabad, but the services will be provided depending upon the availability of bikers in the area from where the request comes. Therefore we request users, for now, to order a ride before half an hour. As getmi app is getting popular we are confident that our bike pool will increase and a ride can be offered immediately after the request,” Shravya said.
Besides offering an opportunity for bikers to get listed with getmi app for offering bike rides, getmi also has 50 bike drivers now, who are full time engaged with the startup and provide rides to companies in B2B category. Getmi bike riders provide services to Apollo Health care, Foodmingo and other companies.

Need to target not only terrorists, but also their supporting ecosystem, says PM Modi

HIGHLIGHTS

  1. Modi projected Pakistan as a risk not just to India but to the global community
  2. Without referring to it by name, he attacked the nation for harbouring terrorist organisations
  3. India has taken a tougher stance against Pakistan after its bid to internationalise violent protests in J&K
NEW DELHI: Three days after he had singled out Pakistan at the G 20 meeting+for spreading terror across the world, PM Narendra Modi again used a multilateral forum to slam Islamabad as an instigator and global exporter of terror+ .

Speaking at the East Asia summit in Vientiane on Thursday, Modi projected Pakistan as a risk not just to India but to the global community and called for strongest action against all countries using terrorism as an instrument of state policy. "There is one country in India's neighbourhood," he said, "whose competitive advantage rests solely in producing and exporting terrorism".

Launch Was Delayed By 40 Minutes: In many firsts, heavy-lift GSLV places 2,211-kg weather satellite into orbit

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Thursday conducted the first successful operational flight of its heavy -lift GSLV rocket with an indigenous cryogenic engine. The launch took place at 4.50 pm at Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.
The GSLV F05, powered by an indigenous cryogenic engine in its upper stage, carried a 2,211-kg INSAT-3DR weather satellite, the heaviest launched from India, into space and into an “orbit very close to the intended one,’’ ISRO stated after the launch.
“The 40-minute delay in the launch was due to an anomaly observed in the functioning of a pressure release valve in the liquid Oxygen filling ground segment which was resolved later,’’ ISRO said. “About seventeen minutes after lift-off, INSAT-3DR was successfully placed in Geostationary Transfer Orbit,’’ it added.
×
The INSAT-3DR is a weather observation satellite built by Indian scientists.
This was the tenth flight involving ISRO’s GSLV rocket. It was also the third successful flight with the indigenous cryogenic engine which powers the upper stage of GSLV rocket.
The indigenous cryogenic engine was tested successfully for the first time on January 5, 2014 with the GSLV-D5. It also performed as per plan on the GSLV D6, which launched GSAT 6 communications satellite on August 27, 2015. The first GSLV flight with an indigenous cryogenic engine in upper stage failed on April 15, 2010, when the GSLV-D3 could not accomplish mission objectives.
The cryogenic stage on GSLV uses liquid Hydrogen as fuel and liquid oxygen as an oxidiser. Compared to solid and earth-storable liquid propellant stages, it is a highly-efficient rocket stage that provides more thrust for every kg of propellant it burns.
India first ventured on the path of obtaining cryogenic technology in 1992 with a two-pronged strategy of purchasing cryogenic engines from Russia and acquiring the technology from US. Following the 1998 nuclear tests, US refused to share the technology. ISRO used seven cryogenic engines sold by Russia for the early phase of its GSLV programme that began in 2001, while developing an indigenous technology simultaneously.
The GSLV programme, which had stalled after the April 2010 failure of GSLV-D3, and a launch pad leak on the GSLV-D5 on August 19, 2013, has come back on track over the past two years.
The successful testing of the indigenous GSLV paves the way for preparations for India’s second mission to the moon Chandrayaan 2.
India is among six nations — the others being the US, Russia, France, Japan and China — to possess the cryogenic engine technology.

Government links driving licences, RCs to digital database

NEW DELHI: You can now drive with your driving licence, vehicle registration certificate and insurance papers safely kept at home as the government launched this facility with DigiLocker, which transport minister Nitin Gadkari said would arrest corruption and bring in transparency.

You can access digital copies of the documents on the mobile phone using the DigiLocker app.

Road transport and IT ministries jointly launched on Wednesday integration of DigiLocker with driving licences (DLs) and vehicle registration certificates (RCs), which enables the user to download these digitally verified documents. Under this arrangement, the transport ministry's National Register has been integrated with DigiLocker.

Once the data from the remaining RTOs is updated in the National Register, the digital copies of those driving licences and vehicle registration certificates will also be available via DigiLocker.
